Becoming

Dear Lidy,

There is a whole invisible world that is crumbling away beneath me. Mountains are shifting, toppling over – ancient, spiritual mountains. It makes my head spin: the path is opening.

In the distance, the call. Something is calling from beyond the horizon, just like when I was little and I had forgotten all about it. Instinct now takes over once more, whispers, guides my hands. I feel an invisible thread gently tugging at my chest, drawing me back to the self I once was, the unblemished one. And at the other end of the thread, the self yet to come. The self I’ve always wanted to build.

And there is a point in time and space where these two worlds will converge.

Art, painting, horses, the beach, late afternoons in small villages, reading, travelling.

And the future, the motorbike… Solitude — tamed, at last, made mine — and books, and writing. Security. Independence, built up. Brick by brick.

A summer. One summer to leave behind the path I’ve always followed, the one that hurts, the one I know so well. One summer to be alone, to understand, to forgive. To create. To write, to settle the debts I owe to myself and, day after day, start all over again.

The person I used to be and the person I dream of becoming, walking hand in hand towards the sun. It’s coming. I can feel it. —
