The story behind the painting

This painting actually has a sentimental value to me. Since childhood, I’ve always dreamt to paint with oil, but never dared to. I always felt like it was too beautiful, too advanced, too wonderful for me. I would go to museums and stick my nose to the 6-meters long pieces of the great masters and look at all the brush strokes and movements and use of colours, without intellectually understanding it, but absorbing it all. Sighing… (Maybe one day? I would to…?)

So when I turned 30, while I was going through an existential where-am-I-going-in-life kind of crisis, my parents offered me an oil painting kit for Christmas. And my mother, who paints wonderfully, taught everything I know.

This painting is the result of our fisrt class together. I’m eternally grateful for her, for she always encouraged me to try and see for myself, to pursue passionately whatever I felt drawn to, and save no efforts pursuing it.
